Affairs - Why Men Cheat on Their Girlfriends

If you have ever been in a relationship where one of you has been unfaithful, it can be a very heartbreaking experience. Men and women both cheat, but it seems more commonplace for men to cheat on their girlfriends or wives. For centuries it has been an acceptable practice for men to have mistresses, especially in the upper classes, however in today's society there is more of an emphasis on trying to have a single monogamous relationship. So why do men continue to cheat?

While each relationship is different, there are some common reasons why there could be infidelity in the relationship.

Girlfriends

a. Men may not feel that happy at home. When a relationship at home is strong, and sex may be just as strong, fewer men will stray. However if the home situation is not happy, and there is a great deal of arguing, men may seek their happiness elsewhere. This could be sought out for emotional, physical, or even spiritual reasons.

b. Self-esteem could be another factor. When men or women have low self-esteem, they may be vulnerable to falling for anyone that will make them feel better about themselves. An ego boost can lead to emotional affairs or physical affairs.

c. Men may also cheat on their girlfriends or wives because they can, and they also feel that they won't get caught. When children are in the picture, the women of the household tend to be preoccupied with their children, so it's easier for men to escape for awhile. Women may also feel like their relationship is strong simply because they have a child together and her man wouldn't cheat for the sake of their kids.

It's unfortunate that infidelity exists in the home, but the reasons above are some of the more popular examples of why and how men can cheat in a relationship.
